The Giving Machine partner organization introduction Vol. 2
Second Harvest Japan
Second Harvest Japan (2HJ) is Japan’s first food bank, established in 2002. From companies and individuals, they collect food that is perfectly edible but would otherwise be discarded for various reasons and deliver it free of charge to people in need. Guided by the slogan of “Food for all People,” 2HJ is working to establish a “food safety-net” — an environment where everyone can access safe and reliable food whenever they need it.
Their main activities are centered around four pillars:
1. Meal delivery services
2. Food pantries, which serve as support hubs for individuals
3. Food bank operations, including supply chain management and intermediary support from food procurement to distribution
4. Advocacy and development

We at Second Harvest Japan (2HJ) hope that our activities will become more widely recognized and that the circle of support will continue to grow. We believe that the “Giving Machine” serves not only as a means of donation, but also as a device that inspires people to take an interest in social issues through the act of giving.
Especially when our message reaches those who may never have had the opportunity to engage in support activities before, we will be delighted. More than the donation itself, we believe that “awareness” and “recognition” are the first steps toward support.
We play a part as a “bridge” — entrusted with the heartfelt intentions of our donors — and we take on the responsibility of delivering those gifts efficiently and with care to those who truly need them. That’s why we strive every day to do our best. What we receive is not merely physical goods, but precious gifts filled with someone’s kindness and compassion. Our mission is to deliver them with sincerity and respect, preserving their true value — that is our commitment.
There are various ways to support 2HJ beyond monetary donations. These include contributing food and emergency supplies, participating in volunteer activities, and joining as a supporting member.
